CONTAINING CORRUPTION

The increasing cost of contesting elections or engaging in electoral politics is at the root of corruption. Unless we find ways to reduce our electoral expenses, it will be difficult to improve politics.

#1. A large number of financially independent individuals or those with a stable income, who can dedicate time and energy to political parties, are needed at the grassroots level.

#2. In India with over 50% of voters in the 18 to 35 years age group having access to smartphones and the internet, we need to accelerate our journey in digital campaigning through stronger collaboration with the Election Commission (EC). We currently have close to 600 million smartphone users, and by 2030, this number is expected to reach 1.3 billion.

#3. Political parties must transparently outline their organizational pyramid, skills, and competencies at each level, along with how impact and performance will be measured. Clear feedback mechanisms are crucial to growing and coaching cadre. Cadre members should experience a sense of meritocracy and growth. Across party lines, many cadres feel betrayed, misused, and cheated. This process should be modeled after the practices of successful corporations.

These are initial thoughts, and I am conducting further research on this topic. Feel free to reach out for more information or collaborations.
